Advancing Gender Justice through Inclusive Legal Engagement (AGILE) Project!
Peace doesn’t only mean the silence of guns; it is manifested when everyone’s state of mind is at rest. South Sudan has experienced conflict for many years, and the most affected have always been women, girls, and children. During these conflicts, human rights have been repeatedly abused, ranging from a lack of access to education for children to gender-based violence, displacement, trauma, and the breakdown of community structures. When we talk about peace, we mean a holistic state in which the mind, body, and community are at rest and live with dignity.
With this understanding, AMALNA South Sudan is proud to announce the rollout of the Advancing Gender Justice through Inclusive Legal Engagement (AGILE) project, made possible through the generous support of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF). This groundbreaking initiative marks a major step toward strengthening gender equality and promoting inclusive legal reforms in South Sudan.

About the AGILE Project
The AGILE project is dedicated to advocating for the domestication, finalization, and implementation of key gender equality frameworks and laws. Central to this effort is the push for the passage of the Anti-GBV Bill and the Family Law—critical legal instruments that protect women, girls, children, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) from child marriage, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and other forms of abuse and discrimination.
Running from September 2025 to August 2026, this one-year project is being implemented in Juba with the aim of accelerating legal reforms that promote gender justice across the country.
What AGILE Will Deliver
Over the next 12 months, AGILE will implement a range of advocacy and community engagement activities, including:
- Strategic lobby and advocacy meetings
- High-level policy dialogues
- Media campaigns
- Community consultations
- Capacity-strengthening sessions
These activities will bring together voices from government institutions, parliament, civil society organizations (CSOs), youth and women groups, PWD networks, coalitions, forums, and other key stakeholders.

Our Goal
AGILE seeks to:
- Ensure the finalization, passage, and effective implementation of the Anti-GBV Bill and Family Law.
- Promote the domestication of key international gender equality frameworks, including:
- The Maputo Protocol
- CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women)
- The South Sudan National Action Plan (SSNAP) on UNSCR 1325
By working hand-in-hand with communities, policymakers, and partners, AMALNA is strengthening institutional capacity and contributing to a safer, more just, and more inclusive South Sudan.
